IBProvider v3.49. Service update

In the new IBProvider update, we ensured a stricter compliance with the OLE DB specification and revised the existing code.

Compliance with the OLE DB specification

  1. The usage of accessors with data types DBTYPE_EMPTY and DBTYPE_NULL is prohibited. Data of this type need to be packaged into VARIANT.
  2. DB_E_UNSUPPORTEDCONVERSION, DB_E_BADSTATUSVALUE and DB_E_BADTYPE error codes involved.

Other changes

  1. Errors identified with PVS-Studio were fixed.
  2. Quality of the existing code was improved. This is our ongoing process.

OLE DB news

Microsoft changed its decision to go back to ODBC and promises to release an updated OLE DB provider for MS SQL.

Let’s hope that they not only will rewrite the provider but also update the OLE DB specification.

Anyway, we will continue to improve our components. And we already know for sure that IBProvider v3.50 will be more perfect than v3.49 🙂
